Thady Kelleher, Kanturk's Old Court, A poem

Caring in Sharing

Freddy and Denny in Kanturk are happy to share a bed sometimes, so long as they don't have to look at one another.

Local Hero

On the Banteer road, past what used to be Sheehan's Duhallow Knitwear, which was always known locally as The Hosiery, even though as far as I know they never made stockings, there is a lovely sculpture.

The sculptor achieved a great likeness of the great ploughman.

John Dillon was a local poet who penned these lines in praise of Thady.

The sculpture is sensitively located in the heart of the countryside. The pots on either end used to hold flowers in summer. I prefer it without flowers.

The Old Court

This edifice is now known as Kanturk castle. It used to be called The Old Court when it was fairly dilapidated. Now after years of excellent restoration work it is a beautiful visitor attraction set in mature woodland.
