Turf has played an important role in the economy of Ireland from time immemorial. It has fueled our engines, warmed our homes, fertilized our soil, preserved priceless treasures for us and it also has given many men a good living. It even provided a hiding place and safe haven for many a man on the run from is enemies.
Jer sent me this photo of the postmaster's car which the IRA took and hid in a bog in North Kerry. They put posts around the car and made a rick of turf to conceal it.
Jer. also sent us this photo of Mick O'Connor bringing home the turf he has cut and saved by hand.
